Description: Trifluridine (also known as trifluorothymidine; FTD; NSC-529182; NSC-75520; NSC529182; NSC75520; Viroptic), an inhibitor of the thymidylate synthase and DNA synthesis, is an approved anti-herpesvirus antiviral agent/medications used mainly for treating infections in the eye. It is a nucleoside and idoxuridine analogue as well as a modified form of deoxyuridine, which is similar enough to be incorporated into viral DNA replication, but the -CF3 group added to the uracil component blocks base pairing. It is one of the two components of the experimental anti-cancer drug TAS-102.
