SBS can be used for detecting amyloid fibrils in autopsy and biopsy samples from patients with localized amyloidosis, such as familial prion disease, and systemic amyloidosis, such as familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy, amyloid A (AA) amyloidosis, light chain (AL) amyloidosis, and dialysis-related amyloidosis.
