Description
This MAb recognizes a protein of ~50kD which is identified as Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP). It shows no cross-reaction with other intermediate filament proteins. GFAP is specifically found in astroglia. GFAP is a very popular marker for localizing benign astrocyte and neoplastic cells of glial origin in the central nervous system. Antibody to GFAP is useful in differentiating primary gliomas from metastatic lesions in the brain and for documenting astrocytic differentiation in tumors outside the CNS.

Applications:
Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence, Flow Cytometry, ELISA, Western Blot, Immunoprecipitation, Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.

Recommended Dilution:
Flow Cytometry: 0.5-1ug/million cells
Immunofluorescence: 1-2ug/ml
Western Blot: 0.5-1ug/ml
Immunoprecipitation: 1-2ug/500ug protein lysate
Immunohistochemistry (Frozen & Formalin-fixed): 0.5-1ug/ml for 30 minutes at RT
(Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10mM Citrate Buffer, pH 6.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes)
Optimal dilution for a specific application should be determined.

Positive Control:
Brain or Astrocytoma

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
