Bio Background	This gene encodes an RGD-containing protein that binds totype I, II and IV collagens. The RGD motif is found in manyextracellular matrix proteins modulating cell adhesion and servesas a ligand recognition sequence for several integrins. Thisprotein plays a role in cell-collagen interactions and may beinvolved in endochondrial bone formation in cartilage. The proteinis induced by transforming growth factor-beta and acts to inhibitcell adhesion. Mutations in this gene are associated with multipletypes of corneal dystrophy.
