Description	HRD1, a Ubiquitin-protein ligase (E3), is required for the degradation and ubiquitination of several endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) substrates and physically associates with relevant ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s). Human HRD1 is localized to the ER and ubiquitinates its substrates. HRD1 has been suggested to be up-regulated to protect against ER stress-induced apoptosis by degrading unfolded proteins accumulated in the ER.
