Description	STAT5A is a member of the family of Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription. It was originally identified as a mammary gland factor (MGF) which binds to GAS (gamma interferon activating) sequences (TTCNNNGAA) in the promoters of milk protein genes and activates their transcription in tissue culture cells. STAT5A, and its close relative STAT5B, are expressed in most if not all tissues, and they can be activated by many cytokines.
