Reconstitution and storage	Reconstitute with 5 ml distilled water. Care should be taken during reconstitution as the protein may appear as a film at the bottom of the vial. It is recommended that the vial is gently mixed after reconstitution. Prior to reconstitution store at 4C. After reconstitution store at 4C or at -20C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the protein. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use. Shelf life is 18 months from date of dispatch.
Description of target	Human lactoferrin is a globular protein found in body secretions such as milk and saliva and is a member of the transferrin family proteins. Transferrins control the level of free iron in the body, by binding and transporting iron. Lactoferrin does not appear to have a transporting function, instead it has antimicrobial activity, by keeping the levels of iron in body fluids low and thus preventing microbes from acquiring iron. Removing free iron from body fluids and inflamed areas also serve to protect against the damaging effects of free radicals. Lactoferrin is used as a therapeutic and prophylactic treatment of various illnesses, such as cancers and intestinal illnesses.
Purification	Purified by chromatography.
Warning	Donor material tested and found negative for HIV, HTLV, HCV and HBsAg. As not test can completely guarantee this material to be free of pathogens, it should be handled as potentially infectious.
Purity	ca. 90% by Biuret method
