Reconstitution and storage	It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized EGF in sterile 18M-Omega-cm H₂O not less than 100 ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions. Lyophilized Epidermal Growth Factor Recombinant although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18° C. Upon reconstitution EGF should be stored at 4° C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18° C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
Description of target	This gene encodes a member of the epidermal growth factor superfamily. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the 53-amino acid epidermal growth factor peptide. This protein acts a potent mitogenic factor that plays an important role in the growth, proliferation and differentiation of numerous cell types. This protein acts by binding with high affinity to the cell surface receptor, epidermal growth factor receptor. Defects in this gene are the cause of hypomagnesemia type 4. Dysregulation of this gene has been associated with the growth and progression of certain cancers. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, at least one of which encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically processed.
Purification	The EGF is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
Biological activity	The ED₅₀ as determined by a cell proliferation assay using murine Balb/c 3T3 cells is less than 0.1 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 1.0 x 10⁷ IU/mg.
Purity	Greater than 95.0% as determined by: (a) Analysis by HPLC (b) Analysis by SDS-PAGE
