Description	Hepatocyte growth factor (human) also known as scatter factor and hepatopoietin A is a multifunctional cytokine. The pleiotropic activities are mediated via its receptor, a transmembrane tyrosine kinase encoded by the protooncogene c-Met. Hepatocyte growth factor shows a protective effect against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury as well as against transient focal cerebral ischemia. Anti-proliferative and proliferative effects on tumor cell lines have been reported.
