Protein Function	Catalyzes the first step in leukotriene biosynthesis, and thereby plays a role in inflammatory processes.
Subcellular Localization	Cytoplasm. Nucleus matrix. Nucleus membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Shuttles between cytoplasm and nucleus. Found exclusively in the nucleus, when phosphorylated on Ser-272. Calcium binding promotes translocation from the cytosol and the nuclear matrix to the nuclear envelope and membrane association.

The kit can be used for measuring the relative amounts of ALOX5 (Phospho-Ser271) in cultured cells as well as screening for the effects that various treatments, inhibitors (ie. siRNA or chemicals), or activators have on ALOX5 (Phospho-Ser271).
