Manufacturer - Applications
Suitablefor use as a standard in Western blot using enhanced chemiluminescence. Load2-5ul directly from vial (no dilution necessary). For blots using lesssensitive substrates, such as alkaline phosphatase, larger amount of proteinshould be loaded onto the gel. Each laboratory should determine an optimumworking titer for use in its particular application. Other applications havenot been tested but use in such assays should not necessarily be excluded.

Antigen Description
Proteinkinase C alpha (PKCalpha), also known as PRKCA, refers to both a human gene andthe protein that is encoded by it. Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family ofserine- and threonine-specific protein kinases that can be activated bycalcium and the second messenger diacylglycerol. PKC family membersphosphorylate a wide variety of protein targets and are known to be involvedin diverse cellular signaling pathways. PKC family members also serve asmajor receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. Each memberof the PKC family has a specific expression profile and is believed to play adistinct role in cells. The protein encoded by this gene is one of the PKCfamily members. This kinase has been reported to play roles in many differentcellular processes, such as cell adhesion, cell transformation, cell cyclecheckpoint, and cell volume control. Knockout studies in mice suggest thatthis kinase may be a fundamental regulator of cardiac contractility and Ca2+handling in myocytes.
