Background	SUMO 1 functions in a manner similar to ubiquitin in that it is bound to target proteins as part of a post-translational modification system. SUMO1 is involved in a variety of cellular processes, including nuclear transport, transcriptional regulation, apoptosis, and protein stability. SUMO1 becomes functionally active when the last four amino acids of the carboxy-terminus are cleaved. SUMO 1 is also associated with SERCA2A, the sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ ATPase that regulates intracellular calcium levels. SUMO 1 activates and stabilizes SERCA2A by binding to lysine resides 480 and 585. This ELISA kit detects free SUMO1 and conjugated SUMO1.
