Background	Kallikrein-6 (KLK-6) is a secretory protein with serine protease activity that is regulated by steroid hormones and implicated in carcinogenesis and amyloid precursor protein cleavage. Kallikrein-6 also cleaves myelin basic protein, gelatin, casein and extracellular matrix proteins such as fibronectin, laminin, vitronectin and collagen. Furthermore, Kallikrein-6 cleaves alpha-synuclein and prevents its polymerization. Kallikrein-6 is detected with gray matter neurons and colocalizes with pathological inclusions such as Lewy bodies and glial cytoplasmic inclusions.
