Specificity:
Specifically recognises hnRNP K (heterogeneous ribonucleotide protein K) a 464 amino acid acidic protein found in the nucleus cytoplasm and mitochondria shown to be involved in transcription mRNA shuttling and the translation and editing of RNA. Over-expression of hnRNP K has been demonstrated in cancerous tissue including that of the colon breast liver and lungs and its involvement in cell migration has been implicated in tumour metastasis. Studies have also shown that hnRNP K increases the transcriptional activity of the c-myc and c-src oncogenes. One of the major pre-mRNA-binding proteins. Binds tenaciously to poly(C) sequences. Likely to play a role in the nuclear metabolism of hnRNAs particularly for pre-mRNAs that contain cytidine-rich sequences. Can also bind poly(C) single-stranded DNA.
