Alomone Labs
With over 30 years of experience in production, research and distribution of various biological products, Alomone Labs offers a wide range of research tools for membrane proteins. The company is headquartered in Jerusalem, Israel.
Alomone Labs started with the isolation and distribution of toxins from venomous animals. Their first product represented the peptide toxin charybdotoxin and was isolated from Leiurus quinquestriatus hebraeus, the Yellow Mediterranean Scorpion. This peptide has an effect on potassium ion channels. Today the company uses modern technology to produce synthetic toxins and proteins, hundreds of organic molecules which are used in the field of ion channels, (G-protein coupled-) receptors and membrane proteins as activator, inhibitor and many others. The production of polyclonal antibodies in the host animals rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as the production of recombinant proteins for cell biological research extend its range of services. Due to in-house production, Alomone Labs ensures sufficient stock, different quantities/sizes of products and reliably high quality, as each "lot" is individually validated and tested.
Research areas
According to the current status, the major areas are: neuroscience; diseases such as breast cancer, diabetes and epilepsy; membrane proteins from various systems; stem cells; metabolism and immunology; and the cardiovascular system are the subject of research.
Products
Individual products of natural, recombinant or synthetic origin are sold, as well as research kits and packs. The products are categorized and partially overlapping, as for example: Antibodies, Blockers, Antagonists and Explorer Kits fall under the appropriate category.
Ion Channels
Ion channels are integral membrane proteins that allow the passage of ions through the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane. A large number of physiological processes are based on this function, such as excitation formation and conduction in nerves, the heart or skeletal muscle, through electrochemical potentials at the cell membrane and the exchange of inorganic ions. Coformational changes lead to the opening and closing of channels, the ion channels can be classified on the basis of the different opening mechanisms. Examples are the voltage-gated -, chemically-gated or the mechanically-gated ion channels.

As shown in Table 1, ion channels are associated with many different diseases, ion channel types, activators and blockers, kits and packs, and represent a supercategory for cross-links among products, such as antibodies.
G protein-coupled receptors
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs for short) have seven-helix transmembrane structures and bind G proteins (also known as GTPases), which give their name to the receptor family. GPCRs are essential for signal transduction in eukaryotic cells and occupy a key position in medicine. About one-third of prescription drugs act on GPCRs, including beta-blockers and antihistamines. Products in the GPCR category include antibodies against corresponding receptors in this family.

Neurotrophic factors and receptors
Neurotrophic factors, also known as nerve growth factors, are proteins that are involved in processes such as growth, differentiation, survival of nerve cells and signal transmission. They play an essential role in the nervous system, as without these molecules learning and repair processes are not possible. Animal studies show a protective role in many neurological diseases.
An example would be the neurotrophin Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) with the receptor Low-affinity Nerve Growth Factor Receptor (LNGFR; synonym: p75). Exemplary disease patterns associated herewith are: Alzheimer's disease, anorexia, bulimia, Huntington's disease, depression, schizophrenia, or alcohol and drug dependence.
Available products related to BDNF are: Antibodies, ATTO-conjugated antibodies, modulators, proteins (-chimeric), biotinylated proteins, explorer kits, and research packs.

Cell imaging tools
Imaging of cells by fluorescent proteins, markers and the like allows to label and visualize almost every molecule in the cell. Conditions of the cell be it functionality or phases in mitosis, up to pathological changes can be visualized. Cell imaging tools represent another product category, available products include conjugated antibodies, labeled neurotrophins, labeled toxins to detect ion channels and other products for live cell imaging.
Other product categories
Alomone Labs other product categories include: transporters, exchangers and pumps; neuronal signal transduction; selected targets, blocking peptides, multiplex staining products, Live Cell Flow Cytometry products and the polyclonal antibodies.
