The Life Science Company BioAcademia was established in July 2005 by Prof. Hideo Shinagawa. Shinagawa's research area includes DNA recombination and DNA damage response. This is the reason why the company's first products were mainly DNA-related enzymes and bacterial toxins. BioAcademia is now working closely with scientists from the academic world, as the company name suggests. Majority of the company's products are provided by researchers who have previously developed them for their own research. In January 2017, the company's cooperation with the University of Osaka culminated in a new laboratory on the campus of the Academy. The main aim is the production of diagnostic reagents and gene editing products for biomedical research.

BioAcademia products can be assigned to a wide range of applications. The company manufactures a variety of antibodies, including those specific to the fields of immunology, cancer research, signal transduction, epigenetics and chromatin, reproductive biology, brain and neurobiology, viral research, and plant biology. Furthermore, there are antibodies for transcription factors and RNA processing, as well as for cell division, checkpoints and chromosomes or ubiquitin, SUMO and the proteasome. The portfolio also includes growth factors, enzymes and reagents for genetic engineering and biochemistry. As mentioned earlier, BioAcademia has also distributed bacterial toxins and their antibodies since the early hours, as well as proteins for DNA recombination, replication and repair and the associated antibodies. Its unique products include antibodies to important model organisms such as E. coli, S. cerevisea and S. pombe. Also available are multiple cDNA libraries of representative model organisms and human tissues.
