Background
Tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), also known as cachectin and TNFSF2, is a pleiotropic pro-inflammatory cytokine secreted by various cells including adipocytes, activated monocytes, macrophages, B cells, T cells and fibroblasts. It belongs to the TNF family of ligands and signals through two receptors, TNFR1 and TNFR2. TNF-α is cytotoxic to a wide variety of tumor cells and is an essential factor in mediating the immune response against bacterial infections. TNF-α also plays a role in the induction of septic shock, auto immune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation, and diabetes.
Description
Mouse TNF-α protein, expressed in E. coli
Formulation
Lyophilized from sterile PBS, pH 7.4.
Precautions

Features & Benefits
Endotoxin: < 0.1 EU per μg of the protein as determined by the LAL method.
Usage Notes
Always centrifuge tubes before opening. It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Mouse TNF-alpha protein using the buffer we provided not less than 100 µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
Preparation method
E. coli
Activity
Measured in a cytotoxicity assay using L929 mouse fibrosarcoma cells in the presence of the metabolic inhibitor actinomycin D. The ED50 for this effect is typically 25-100 pg/ml.
Protein length
The recombinant Mouse TNF-α protein consists of 157 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 17 kDa.
