Description |
L-Quebrachitol is a sugar that is found in plants and bacteria. It has been shown to have significant up-regulation of metabolic enzymes and to have inhibitory effects on skin cancer cells. L-Quebrachitol has also been shown to be effective as a wastewater treatment agent, with the ability to lower the concentrations of fecal coliforms, while at the same time increasing microbial activity. This study also showed that L-Quebrachitol can be used as an energy source for 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and that it can stimulate glycolysis in these cells. L-Quebrachitol is converted into erythritol by hydrolysis with alpha-glucosidase, which increases its inhibitory effects on skin cancer cells.
