Alexidine dihydrochloride is an anticancer agent that targets a mitochondrial tyrosine phosphatase, PTPMT1, in mammalian cells and causes mitochondrial apoptosis. Thus, Alexidine dihydrochloride has the potential to be developed as a pan-antifungal, antibiofilm drug.
