Description of target
Secreted signal that acts globally to specify positional identity along the anterior/posterior axis during development. May play critical roles in patterning both mesodermal and neural tissues and in establishing the skeletal pattern. Signals through activin receptors type-2, ACVR2A and ACVR2B, and activin receptors type-1, ACVR1B, ACVR1C and TGFBR1 leading to the phosphorylation of SMAD2 and SMAD3.

Kit principle
The microplate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Growth Differentiation Factor 11 (GDF11). Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microplate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody specific to Growth Differentiation Factor 11 (GDF11). Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then the mixture of substrate A and B is added to generate glow light emission kinetics. Upon plate development, the intensity of the emitted light is proportional to the Growth Differentiation Factor 11 (GDF11) level in the sample or standard.
